Questions? We've got answers.

hercampus@cubacandela.com

  1. Is travel to Cuba safe and legal?

Travel to Cuba is safe and legal. Cuba is one of the safest countries in the world. We are licensed by U.S. Treasury's OFAC to provide travel services to Cuba. Leave the legal headaches to us! We ensure that your trip is fully compliant with all U.S. travel regulations. You will be traveling on a people-to-people educational license.

  2. How do I book my flight?

Airlines fly nonstop service to Havana, Cuba. Book a flight on your preferred carrier and input your flight information into our online registration form. We will track flight delays automatically and be waiting for you at the airport when you land! Select "people-to-people" as the category of travel when booking your flight.

  3. Where do I get my Cuban visa?

Airlines sell you the Cuban visa directly at the airport on your date of departure. This is super easy and there is nothing to do in advance!

  4. Who will be accompanying us on the trip?

Each group of 40 will be accompanied by a Her Campus representative, a CUBA CANDELA staff member, and a local Cuban guide.

  5. Where are we staying?

You will be staying in an oceanfront hotel in Playas del Este, located twenty minutes outside of Old Havana. Please note that the hotel is not located in Old Havana city. You'll get the best of both worlds, beach + culture!

  6. How much should I budget for personal spending?

We recommend that you bring $150 per day. Your trip is all inclusive, but we ask that you bring cash to tip Cuban staff, buy souvenirs, alcoholic beverages, and other goodies. Remember that debit and credit cards will not work in Cuba, so it is better to bring extra cash.

  7. What will we be doing?

The best Cuba has to offer! Activities will be a well-balanced mix of classic Cuba and cultural immersion. To see the full plan, download the trip itinerary above!

  8. What if I have an emergency?

We will have dedicated staff on the ground in Cuba at your service for the duration of the trip who are able to address any emergencies.

  9. Is medical insurance included?

Cuban medical insurance is included with every airline ticket from a U.S. departure city. Your boarding pass will serve as proof of this medical insurance while in Cuba. Hold onto it during your trip! If you wish to purchase additional medical insurance, you may do so through a U.S. carrier such as GeoBlue.

  10. Can I use my U.S. cellphone and/or WiFi while in Cuba?

You will be able to use your U.S. cell phone to text back and forth with your family in the U.S. for approximately $0.50 per text message. Check with your U.S. cell carrier to confirm current rates. However, please be VERY CAREFUL not to accidentally use data roaming. Data roaming is very expensive in Cuba. Be sure to turn off data roaming while you are using roaming to send text messages. There will be WiFi available for purchase at your hotel, but the connection can be very slow and unreliable. We encourage all travelers to embrace the digital detox and disconnect while in Cuba as much as possible!
